MISSION STATEMENT
The 11th New York Regiment of the United States Volunteers of America, Inc. is
dedicated to the ideal that every deceased New York and Long Island Veteran,
honorably discharged, is entitled to a respectful and dignified
Military Funeral Honors (MFH) as befitting our Nation's heroes and defenders. Whenever and
wherever possible, the volunteers of the 11th NY will be available to provide
Buglers and Firing Parties (to augment the local military units - Army, Marines,
Navy, USAF and Coast Guard) upon the request of the deceased veteran's family. In those cases
where the military cannot provide a detail to Fold and Present the Flag to the
Next of Kin at gravesite, USV volunteers are available to perform these duties.
There are no costs to the families or the funeral directors that request FMH from the 11th NY Volunteers. As a 501 C3 charity, donations to the USV are appreciated but not required. In no case will anyone making a request for VSO support or MFH be asked to make a donation in advance nor will an offer to do or not not to do so effect 11th NY's willingness to support the mission. Such requests are based solely on the ability of the regiment to provide ample number of volunteers on the date, time, place needed.
SECONDARY MISSION
To further augment the mission assigned to the New York State military units,
the 11th NY efforts to train its members to assist in the areas related to
Homeland Security and the Federal Emergency Management Agency. The purpose is to
prepare citizens to help as back-up responders in times of natural disasters or
emergencies, lending assistance to organizations like the Red Cross and
Community Emergency Response Teams (CERTS) within local Long Island and New York
City.
We are available for military ceremonial duties on a select basis depending upon availability of our unit members.
